Many of our customers return time and time again and are more than used to the cleaning process. However for those who aren’t, the answers below to some of the most commonly asked questions will hopefully put your mind at rest, and give you a good insight into the entire process.

Why should I get my carpets cleaned?

Carpets absorb all sorts including chemical contamination, outdoor pollutants, pesticides, bio-contaminants, allergens, combustion products, asbestos, dust mites, bacteria, grease and oil deposits, and sand, not to mention soil and food particles. Regular professional cleaning will help to remove these contaminants leading to a healthier environment for you and your family.

How often should I get my carpets and upholstery cleaned?

Most manufacturers recommend that carpets and upholstery are professionally cleaned every 12-18 months. Carpets should be cleaned on a regular basis and before they become heavily soiled. Allowing soil to build up will significantly reduce the life of a carpet.

Will my carpets and upholstery re-soil quickly after cleaning?

Chemicals and detergents today are manufactured to the highest specifications for quality and effectiveness. We will only use chemicals designed for the removal of soil from carpets and upholstery and, when used correctly, these will not lead to any rapid re-soiling. Detergents that are not designed for use on carpets and upholstery may cause re-soiling problems.

How long will my carpet and upholstery take to dry?

Drying times depend on many factors, including how soiled the item was, the construction, how much water was needed, humidity, indoor atmosphere, etc. However, in most normal cases, carpets and soft furnishings should be dry within 4-8 hours, and we do advise to the best of our ability at the quotation stage. If drying times are a major concern, there are semi dry methods available but aren’t suitable for all carpets and fabrics.

Will all the stains come out?

We can’t guarantee that any particular stain will be removed. Some stains permanently damage or change the colour of the carpet and no amount of professional cleaning will reverse this. We are fully trained in stain and spot removal so if you have a stain you are concerned about, let us know and we can give an honest opinion.

Do I have to vacuum prior to having our carpets cleaned?

No. All carpets will be thoroughly vacuumed by ourselves using our specialist Sebo vacuum as our first step in the cleaning process. Hopefully you already have a regular vacuuming schedule so no rushing around before we arrive with your vacuum is necessary.

Do I have to empty my rooms or move furniture?

We are more than happy to move any items of furniture you wish, we have specialist furniture sliders that make our life very easy, so don’t go hurting your back! The only thing we ask is that any breakables and items on top of furniture are removed and the load lightened e.g. books removed from a bookcase, prior to cleaning as we place furniture protection pads under legs etc to stop any dye transfer from wood, or rust from metal items marking the carpet. And to protect the furniture of course! Alternatively if you so wish, we can clean up to and around furniture you may want to leave in situe, the choice is completely yours and again will be discussed at quotation.

Will cleaning remove the stain protector/Scotchguard?

If you have had a stain protector applied either by ourselves or at manufacturers when new, cleaning, general use and vacuuming will remove some of the protection. A general rule of thumb is most stain protector products if applied to manufacturer’s recommendations will last up to 5 years and two professional cleans.

Could my carpet shrink?

The majority of carpets cannot be shrunk, but we always investigate the construction of a carpet at the quotation stage to test for any potential problems, including shrinkage. If this is the case and the carpet is installed correctly, it is very rare the cleaning process will cause it to shrink.

Will my children / pets be affected by the chemicals or process?

Health and safety is of paramount importance in the cleaning industry. Professional cleaning solutions are tested for their effects on the environment and occupants of areas in which they will be used. We will also ensure that the relevant safety procedures are followed during the cleaning process. It is recommended that children and pets stay off of a damp carpet until it is completely dry, this will help prevent slip and fall hazards as well as tracking muddy footprints!
